VA Burn Law Restrictions in Effect From 15 February Through 30 April

As the weather becomes more spring-like, you may consider using your bike on our region's many bike trails as part of your fitness routine for the new year. If you decide to go biking, it's essential to follow all relevant regulations and make sure that you have the proper safety gear.

Safe Handling of Home Hazardous Materials

It is important for you to know the steps you can take to keep yourself and your families safe from accidents related to home hazardous materials.

Batteries
Used and “dead” batteries can remain a fire hazard. Place tape over battery terminals before disposal or recycling.
Replace batteries if they get wet or damaged.
Keep lithium batteries in a cool dry place.

* Your risk of dying in a home fire is greater as you get older.

* Discuss your fire escape plan with family and neighbors. Contact your building manager or the James City-Bruton VFD to discuss your plan if you need extra help escaping.

* If you use a walker or wheelchair, check all exits to be sure that you can go through the doorways.
